Tokyo

Well, I spent the past few days wandering around Tokyo, definitely not sightseeing. Let me clarify; I saw no temples or shrines. I did however see the crazy comic book dressing people, rockabilly gangs, weird sex shops, and a fish market where people bid on 100 lb tuna. I had a 6 AM sushi breakfast. This is a cool town.

I also met up with Roy one more time at the airport before his flight to Hawaii. He is a good kid and should move closer to New York. We just wandered around Narita Airport and made fun of the Japanese for a few hours. Then I went back into town checked into a capsule hotel, which is basically like sleeping in a cubicle stacked on top of another cubicle. It was actually pretty comfortable and the roof had another Japanese bath with big windows which allowed me to stand naked over Tokyo and survey my surroundings.

I met up with some Japanese people that I had met earlier on my trip, thus completely some kind of circle. The Japanese are good people, super nice, very motivated, and fashionable. They are also reserved and quiet and nervous. I have never in my life seen so many people rushing to their super-efficient trains. If they miss one, there is literally another one in 3 minutes. Roy told me that they hate being late, even if there is nothing to do. They will still be sitting there at 9AM.

They are also incredible fashion obsessed, making me feel like a butch lesbian (shout-out to Julie Feuer). Every corporate worker had a really hip haircut. All the other clichés are true also. Like middle aged business men all play video games and read comics. The girls always flash a peace sign for pictures. Also, they are on their cell phones all the time, but I don’t think that they are calling anyone, just playing games and watching TV.

I did not partake in the famous nightlife of Tokyo. I was really rundown and borderline sick. I am kind of sick of getting sick, so it’s a good thing that I’ll be heading home on May 2nd. The problem here is that if you miss the last trains at midnight, you have to stay out all night because the taxis are unaffordable. They start! at 700 yen ($7) and just start ticking up and up. My friend here told me he took a 10 minute ride and it was $30. So, I wasn’t really up for a big night out. Also, I’ll be in Bangkok next, so I’m sure I’ll drink.
